Planting Oceania
At the Gill Tract Farm and Filoli Historical House & Garden, Loa Niumeitolu and Fuifuilupe Niumeitolu co-founded Planting Oceania, a group that reconnects Pacific Islanders to the land in order for them to reclaim their self-determination. The Gill Tract Farm is located in Albany, near UC Berkeley, and is partnered with the Sogorea Te Land Trust. Through their hard work year round, Planting Oceania fosters a rich community while utilizing sustainable land practice for ethical food production and justice.
CPISC is honored to partner with Planting Oceania in order to reconnect diasporic UC Berkeley Pacific Islander students and community members in the Bay Area with the land they steward through hands-on workdays of tending, planting, and harvesting Pacific Islander ancestral crops, like Kalo. Our Graduate Island Justice Fellow, Ari works as a Kalo educator and Coordinator at the farm.
If you are interested in reconnecting with the earth or learning more about sustainable land practice, check back for more updates and workdays open to the community in January 2026!
