The Oceanic Podcast
The Oceanic Podcast highlights issues facing the Pacific region by sharing visions and lived experiences from a growing collective of Pacific Islander researchers, activists, artists, and allies. We seek to understand relationships between militarization, environmental justice, Indigenous cultural preservation, colonialism, climate change, and much more. We want to utilize the practice of intergenerational storytelling through podcasting and create wider community access to this knowledge while empowering the Pacific connections across the ocean.
Season One: Belau focuses on the island Palau and how the issues the nation is connecting to the broader region of Oceania. The podcast is hosted by Erythrina Ngirkelau, an undergraduate IJ fellow, who comes from Palau. She is very passionate about recording her community's voice and her goal is to connect Palau's unique traditions to their strategies of navigating a globalized world. She sits down with Palauan students, activists, political leaders, and other community members to hear their perspectives and learn from their struggles and successes.
